At Gift of Life Adoptions, one of our favorite things to do is the post placement visit. It takes us out of the office, on the road and we get to check-in with “our” babies after placement. It is such a special time for us. As we watch the adoptive parents lovingly dote over their new baby, we get to see firsthand the results of all the hard work that goes into creating a family.
Most recently, Meghan, our Director, was able to go down to South Florida to visit with a family who got to bring their new baby home just a few months ago. Meghan actually had the honor of being with the birth mom in the delivery room. It was delightful for her to see how the baby had grown since delivery. This chunky cutie is now weighing over 10 pounds!
Here’s what to expect for your post placements visits:
- This is just us checking in. Post placements are to ensure the placement of the child is going smoothly. You get to show her off to us as we discuss all milestones that she’s meeting.
- We’ll talk through future birth mom communication. We will remind you about the picture and letter updates schedule that was discussed with your birth mom. We will also give you some idea of what the update should entail and answer any questions you might have.
- We’ll get you ready for your forever family day! We will prep you for your finalization court date in front of the judge. We will discuss what to expect during the hearing, what to wear, and how many cameras you can bring ;).
If you have any questions about post-placement visits, don’t hesitate to call and talk with our Adoptive Parent Coordinator, Leah Wild. She would be happy to chat with you.
